Mass Intentions.  Questions periodically arise about the names listed beside each Mass in the Schedule. These are special requests that the priest personally remembers as he celebrates the Mass. They are NOT the intention for which a Mass is celebrated --- rather, Every Mass is celebrated for the intention of everyone. They are simply requests for a personal intention given by the priest, and therefore are not read in the Intercessions of the Mass. Mass Intentions are an old custom, part of Catholic tradition. According to the tradition, the requested intention is accompanied by a stipend (gratuity) to the priest (customarily $5.00), which can lead to a misunderstanding that the Mass is "bought for someone". That is not true; again, every Mass belongs to everyone. Further, you can request an intention with no stipend, and it will be honored. Also FYI, the priest is allowed to keep up to two stipends per day, and sends the rest to the missions. Confused yet? Now to the most-asked question.

How to schedule: If you wish to schedule a Mass Intention, write the name of the person for whom the intention is requested on an envelope, along with the name of the donor (or just "by donor", if you choose), enclose a stipend (if you choose), and make sure the priest gets it (handing it to him on Sunday is great; but no telephone messages, please). Envelopes are in the back of the church. Mass Intentions will be celebrated in the parish preferred if at all possible, however, sometimes it is necessary to spread them between parishes in order to ensure that they get done properly. Generally they are celebrated in the order received, however, this is the priest's prerogative; and, intentions for health or well-being usually take priority.

Mass intentions are scheduled two weeks in advance.  Health and Well-being take priority over other intentions.
